Welcome to 9th grade English. Please look over the following items for your reference throughout the semester.
SUPPLIES
You will need a binder specifically for this class to keep all handouts and completed work as well as daily agendas, class notes, and assignments you write down. Each day when you arrive, the agenda will be posted which will include a bell ringer, the day’s objectives, activities, and homework. Please make sure you copy it down daily. Bring a writing instrument and any books we are using with you to class too.
GRADING
Because this is an English class, you can expect to be reading and writing daily in journals, peer responses, essays, papers, research assignments and the like. All work will receive points ranging from 5-200 depending on the length and depth of the work. Check Infinite Campus weekly for your progress in class. If you are unhappy with a grade you earned on an assignment worth 35+ points, you have the opportunity to redo it using Golden Tickets. Should you decide to retake an assignment, you have to let Mrs. Peebles know within three days of the assignment being returned to the OUTBOX.
LATE WORK
Assignments are expected to be turned in on their due date. Any late assignments turned in will not receive full credit. At least once a month, you will receive a grade report with missing work highlighted. If that work is not turned in three days after you receive the grade report, no credit will be given. If you are overloaded with work from other classes or have personal reasons why the work cannot be completed, please notify me IN ADVANCE and we’ll work together for another option.
ATTENDANCE
When you are absent, you will be given a due date for all work missed. If you miss a test day, expect to take the test upon your return. If you have an early dismissal from school or if you come in late to school and miss my class, you MUST come get the work from me at some point during the day. Find me before school, during my plan period, after school, or send me an email speebles@iroquois.iu5.org. Any assignments you miss because of absence will be recorded as a ZERO in the grade book until you complete the work (so you realize your grade is effected if the work is not done.)
COMPUTER WORK
We will use technology quite a bit in this class for a variety of purposes. Note that when we are using the computers, you are expected to be using them for the reasons related to the assignment only. Misuse or abuse of computer time will result in the loss of it. We use a class website for assignments & activities: https://scglunt.wikispaces.com. Share this with your parents as well!
